Question:

My toilet is not powerful enough to flush down any "solids". What do I need to do to fix this??

After dropping the "solids", I flushed the toilet and it did not get sucked down. I had to put on a pair of rubber gloves and remove it by hand to flush down a different toilet. Now I can flush this toilet but it barely sucks down a piece of bath tissue.

  1. There's probably a partial blockage beyond the part you can see. A plunger may force it into the wider waste pipe, where it will exit the house, but a plumber's snake does the job far more efficiently.

We bought a snake, years ago, and it's been a good investment, since we've used it on countless toilets and the occasional shower drain. We still call the plumber for the bathtub drain.

Still, a snake costs way more than a plunger, so try a plunger first. It's going to be somewhat sloppy, so wear old pants and pick up the bath mat if it's close.

  2. eat more fruit products or chinese food and quit poopin solids.   LOL !!   sorry, i couldnt resist, i thought it was funny, hope you get a good laugh too.

  3. Since you didn't say it was slow, just not powerful enough, I was thinking the flap isn't opening completely when you flush.  Take the top off and watch what happens when you flush.  If you think the flap should open more, adjust the chain that's attached to the handle and see if it improves.  Like the others said, make sure it's not blocked as well.

  4. rent or buy a snake. it will be way cheaper than hiring rotorooter to come out.

  5. Try holding the handle down while the toilet flushes, don't let it down until it finishes.  If this improves the power you're getting, you need to get a float to hold the flapper up longer.  Apparently it's dropping back down so fast you're not getting enough water to flush properly.  If holding the handle doesn't help, you need to try the plunger.

  6. Take a very small allen wrench and poke it into the holes under the rim of the toilet. Calcium deposits collect there not allowing water to dump into the bowl fast enough for a good flush. Also try to clean out the large hole at the bottom of the bowl with a slightly larger allen wrench. If the calcium got to bad the toilet will have to be replaced.
