Ok

My loo seems to be overflowing when flushed. I've put my hand down the loo to feel for a blockage but cant feel anything at all.

Don't want to have to call a plumber just yet. Any further advise please?

  1. defanitly a blockage somewhere,id suggest liftingthe manhole cover and taking a look if the manhole is full of waste could bea local blockage and therefore a problem for your local council to fix at no cost to you

  2. Get one of the small, according-type plungers.  It creates great suction.  Just plunge away.   It does the trick.

  3. Try using a long handled mop and use it like you would a plunger, you may be lucky and send the blockage on it's way, then leave and try flushing again, it usually works!

  4. Mmmm. Could be a 6inch diameter pipe but a 8inch diameter bum using it. Get and old fashioned type floormop, the 1 that looks like a bad wig, and plunge it into the pot quite a few times. This should clear it but if it is a missing toilet airfreshner that's got lodged down there you'll need a plumber.

  5. Its blocked further along the pipe then isnt it?

If you dont have a long plunger then my recommendation is to call a plumber - or at least phone one and ask some advice.

  6. Depends how good you are at DIY.

I would turn off water. Unscrew pan from floor, remove flexible tube and poke a rod through the pipe.

    Maybe a half hour job.

  7. get a good plunger and try that a bit then a bottle of liquid plumbr.  if those don't work then i'd try a professional.

  8. The problem can be solved temporarily as follows.

a] put one house brick inside your cistern.

b] flush your toilet - if it still overflows repeat a] until it no longer does so.

    Hope that helps.

To sum up - too much water is coming from the cistern into the lavatory pan [bowl] to temprarily deal with this, put house bricks into the cistern tank until the overflow problem is solved.

You need to clean out the waste pipe beyond the U bend of your lavatory.
