  1. You don't happen to live in Missouri do you?  I just had to take apart and reassemble my toilet for the same kinda problem.  I couldn't tell you in words how to fix it, but I could come over and show you.

  2. Sounds like the ball c**k valve is bad,,,, but,,,, do the easy thing and check the float first.

Manually, as you have been doing, fill the tank with water.  Press down on the float arm gently, and you should feel quite a bit of resistance on the float, to being pushed under the water.

If the float appears to be good, (not filled with water, still boyant, etc.), then your ballcock valve (the thing the float attaches to), probably needs to be replaced.

If the float is bad, or has water on the inside, etc.... it needs replaced.  It's dirt cheap and easy to fix, and is much less involved than replacing the ballcock valve.

    Good Luck.

  3. You need the whole apparatus. It's easy enough for a second grader to install. The simple instructions are on back and it costs about 12 dollars at any hardware store.

  4. chk the thing that plugs the water on the bottom of the tank ...it should sit right on the mouth of the tube ..if it doesnt than itsreplaceable...go to local hardware store ..they will tell you what you need

  5. Instead of trying to rebuild your ballcock valve, it's just as easy to buy a new valve and replace it. They usually come with the instructions included with them. The only tip in doing it is if the pipe from the wall to the toilet is a hard copper (or hard chromed copper), it will be much easier if you also spend the money for a flexible line. Both these are available at Home Depot (and the other hardware stores).
