My toms on my drum set resonate too much? (Too much echo)?

My toms resonate WAY too much. Whenever I strike them, "BONGGGGGGGG BONGGGGGGGGGG".

I just want that blunt sound that most modern bands have. You know, that sort of metal sound with no echo. Just the sound of hitting the drum and nothing else. That "blunt" sound.

tighten the heads.  I would suggest tightening the bottom head a little more than the top to eliminate the echo.  Only when they are tightened exactly alike will they resonate and the tighter they are the shorter the thump
