Question:

My tomtom GPS device won't charge?

I've had a tom tom 700 for a couple of years without incident. I've needed to reset it occasionally, but nothing like this. It won't charge -- the unit it's self still worked up to the time the battery died, but two different cords to charge off the cigarette lighter won't turn on the little light that shows it's charging.

I reset it, and for a split second the charge light goes on, but thats all

I've been on the phone with TomTom several times to no avail. They just say "reset it" but that hasn't worked.

Ideas?

  1. Sounds to me like you need a new charger.  I've never had this happen with my GPS, but I have had it happen with a cell phone.    I have also had my cigarette lighter "port" of my car stop working.  Maybe a "home charger" would be something to try?

Also, your best bet is probably to call the company and they can tell you what they can do for you if you ask then how their repair policy works.  I personally would buy a charger for $10-$15 online and try that before I sent in the unit for repairs or anything.
