I have a tooth in the front that is discolored. I have had it forever. What can be done to whiten it? I tried to home bleach but it didn't work. I know I need to do to the dentist, but I want your opinions first so that I kind of know what to expect when I go. Thanks!

  1. I would go to your denist, some home whitening don't work because sometime we have crowns or filling that get in the way of the actual tooth.  So ask your denist about whiteing, he/she will come up with a plan.  Just see your options out.

  2. Is it black or just darker than the other teeth? I have a tooth that is a little darker than the rest. I just assume its because I drink alot of coffee an that tooth didnt hold up against the shalacking of coffee that it gets every morning.

now if the tooth is black, that means there was some kind of root damage to the tooth and you need a new one because its dead.

Look at other peoples teeth, you'll see alot of people have a dark tooth... I used to be really concerned about it but my dentist never said anything about it so it didnt bother me. Then I noticed that unless you find someone with ultra white teeth odds are they'll have a dark tooth too!

you can be friends with that person... then you can tell dark tooth stories.... and have sleepovers..

  3. You either have what is called Tetracycline staining or your nerve died in that tooth at a young age from some type of trauma. Either way, you are right, you cannot get it white from bleaching. Here is your best bet:

Get the tooth crowned with a porcelain jacket. It is much stronger that a veneer and the tooth's darker color will not show through. What your dentist will do is shave the tooth down and take an impression if it. He then sends it to the lab and you will leave with a temporary crown. The temporary will be normal tooth color. It may not be the exact same shade as your other teeth like the permanent crown will be, but it will be much better than a dark tooth. Then in a couple of weeks after your first appointment he will deliver the perm. crown. It will be cemented permanently and it will be like you never had a stain!

  4. my opinion is that you need to go to the dentist.  DIY bleaching kits obviously aren't working.

  5. Dentist.  Were you taking antibiotics that could've stained them?  If so, the stain will be throughout your tooth.  Were you sick much in the past (throwing up), the acid will make your teeth that color, too. Dentist is the only way unfortunately!

  6. send it to me by mail and let me bleach it white!!!

  7. Hello...OK..first off you need to see the dentist to make a positive diagnosis as to why the tooth is dark . Then when that is accomplished and what ever dental procedure required is performed...if one is, you can then deal with making it whiter or better matched to your other teeth. The dentist can provide one of three procedures to accomplish your goal...the tooth can be capped or the tooth can be Overlayed with a composite plastic material with the color you want...or the tooth can be covered with a Porcelain veneer in the proper color....some people have all their front teeth Veneered which can not only provide the color they want but the Veneers can be shaped to give them a real Hollywood look. Good luck and I wish you well.

  8. Was there any kind of accident in the past where you hurt your tooth?  I had a really bad fall on my bike when i was younger and the tooth came down a little, but everyone told me braces would put it back in place.  After like 2 weeks it started to turn blackish and I went to the endodontist, turns out the nerve ahd died and I had to get a root canal.

  9. I had a few friends that had this...the tooth is dead.
