My tortoises keeps trying to burrow everywhere. And she is sleeping alot more than usual. is she alright?

  1. Could you tell us what kind of tortoise and her enclosure?   I would check the temperatures and make sure it's high enough.  Also - how much light is she getting?  If she's not already living in an outdoor enclosure, you might think about building one.  The natural sunlight is so much better for them.  Good luck to you and your tort!  :)


  2. As said by the first poster. More info on the set up.

    If she is out side during the heat of the day the digging is to get to cool dirt. The sleeping more would be to stay out of the heat.

    Mine come out in early morning and late evening to graze.

    They were even out in the rain today.

  3. it depends on what type of tortoise you have as to whether it is normal or not, some tortoises do not like extreme heats so burrow out of the way and sleep a lot during the day, my Mediterranean spur thigh does not like the heat and about mid day will go into her hut and sleep for a few hours until the temp drops by a few degrees, here is a good site to find out information   http://www.tortoisetrust.org/ if she stops eating and sleeps more then get her checked over by a herp vet, best of luck honey
