I just had my fasting blood cholesterol checked (did not eat or drink [except water] 12+ hours) as there is a genetic predisposition for high cholesterol on my dad's side of the family.

Here are the results:

Total cholesterol: 100 mg/dL

LDL cholesterol: 49 mg/dL

HDL cholesterol: 43 mg/dL

% HDL: 43.0 percent

Triglycerides: 40 mg/dL

The reference range for LDL is 70-129 mg/dL, and 49 mg/dL for my LDL falls well outside of this (I thought this would be a good thing though). Additionally, my total cholesterol 100 mg/dL falls out of the normal reference range of 135-199 mg/dL.

I was wondering if I should be worrying about having levels this low. Does anyone know?

Additional information about me: I am 5'8" and 155 lbs, I run 5-8 miles per day on average, lift every other day, do not drink (a glass of wine once a month if at all), and eat healthy (drink lots of white & green tea, eat whole grains, fruits & veggies, and eat lots of salmon).

  1. No there is nothing to worry about . If LDL is low and HDL is high that means you are a very healthy person. LDL is the bad type of cholesterol if its results are high that means you may be a risk of developing heart diseases.

so don't worry at all , and remain on you diet and life style.
