  1. Towels need washing in hot water to get rid of moulds, body grease etc.  They should not smell then.

  2. Wash them in hot water with some bleach.  It will take the smell right out.

  3. Toss 1/2 cup baking soda into the drum with the clothing to prevent build-up in the detergent compartment. Wash them on cold then add as much white vinegar as your will allow to the rinse cycle. Pre soaking is not really necessary as the baking soda and white vinegar are very good at getting rid of smells. Once dried, the vinegar smell will be gone.

  4. I use ammonia in the water; Vinegar didn't work for me. I'd forgotten towels were in the washer and they were in there for 3-4 days. The mildew smell was so bad I thought I was going to have to throw them in the trash. I used a cup of ammonia and washed the towels in hot water; I did not soak them. I found this tip on the Internet somewhere. Anyway, it really worked!

  5. Mix some baking soda in with your dry detergent.  Some front loaders have a special compartment for presoak detergent but if yours does, make sure you use whatever kind of detergent you're using in the regular wash.  If you mix liquid with dry, it can get clumped and clog the compartments.

  6. try hand washg once
