Question:

My toyota Rav 4, can anyone help me?

my car is a toyota rav 4, a 2002 or 2003 (i forget) I accidently left the light on in the car and the battery has died because I cannot turn the car on, and the alarm does not work either.

Should I buy one of those things to help jump start the car (boost I think its called). I have an old one, but its long been out of commishion.

When I tried to put the wires for the boost to start the car, I didnt know where to put the cables, so can anyone tell me that as well?

so here are the questions:

Should I use the boost to start up the car?

and

where do I need to put the wires/cables from to boost in the engine of the Toyota Rav 4 (2002-2003) to jump start the car, because I do not know where to put them.

If anyone has a Rav 4, please help.

  1. I think you are better off buying a new battery from COSTCO Wholesale (i) if you are member and (ii) if you know how to buy correct battery as well as install yourself bec of age and fact that you will eventually encounter same problems again in winter when you will need MAXIMUM CRANKING POWER.

    Best of Luck!

  3. It sounds like your confused so I would get a hold a hold of someone who could actually do that for you.  If you are not 100% certain you will possible short out your engine contol unit.  If it an original battery, you probably are due for a new one.

For reference, you always disconnect the negative battery cable and then charge the battery.

  4. red is positive (+)

    black is negative (-)

  5. You should be able to "jump" or "boost" the battery. A jumper box should start the car. Buying a jumper box is a good investment if it's something you have a use for often (you will need to charge a new jumper box overnight to be able to use it).

Jumper cables are more reliable because they never die, you just need another car with a good charging system.

The battery is located in the engine compartment. Open the hood and look to the left side of the cowl (just below the windshield). There are 2 tabs sticking up, just give them a little push and a panel will come out exposing the battery.
