its a Massy 675. It does sometime manage to turn the engine a couple of times. I was wandering whether it could be the solenoid, it seems to smoke a little when the key is turned? Any ideas?

  1. What I would do is take off the battery cable and clean the clamp and post on the battery. The reason its making the clicking noise is because battery is getting low. And the smoking is because of a loose connection at the battery terminals. Hope this helped you out. Need anything else just email me.

  2. sounds like a dead battery or the alternator not charging battery,

  3. hi donna here...  just maybe it could be the battery or  the starter  what do you think? could be the benndics i hope i was helpful  byee   donna sue

  4. Low battery level.  Check the battery cells to make sure that there is enough fluid and then disconnect the battery and as already mentioned, clean the battery post and inside of the cable connectors with steel wool of a battery post cleaner.  Before reconnecting use a solution of baking soda and water and poor over the posts and connectors.  It will fizz up and help clean any remaining acidic residue.  Make sure the connectors are replaced and firmly connected.

  5. It could be the selenoid but first check the clean the wires then charge the battery. You would have noticed it befotre usually celenoids will give you a littlw warning by clicking and then maybe starting for a few starts before they are right gone.

  6. Dead battery, or poor connection from battery to starter.  Might try jumping the starting.

    Put tractor in NEUTRAL

    Connect jumper cables

Turn key to "on"  position (position the key is in when tractor is running, NOT starting)

Place s***w driving on starter celenoid (sp), and a grounding s***w at the same time.  Sparks may fly a little but tractor will usually turn over.

  7. Well , Check whether your battery is ok and the other your ignition...

  8. if it smokes when you try to start it, then it is likely a bad electrical connection, I would check all the battery cables and it could be the solenoid.

an easy way to check where the problem is to measure the voltage.

connect a volt meeter to the battery first, then try to start it.

check how much the voltage goes down, if it stays the same and it is high enough, then it is not a bad battery.

then check where the solenoid connects, when you find a spot that has no or little voltage where it should then you will have found the problem.

if you have no volt meeter, then use a tail light or something to see if there is power somewhere,

don't forget to check the ground cable as well.

a bad connection can also cause the battery to not charge, so there is a good chance that the battery needs replaced as well as what caused the problem in the first place, if you replace the battery and it works, do not quit looking for the problem.

  9. I don't think it is the solenoid.  If you have it out in the cold, the oil makes it harder for the engine to turn over and also the antifreeze in the radiator would be good if you plugged it in.  If it is outside in the cold and you crank it over a few times, the battery gets lower.  Good luck!

Hey, looks like you should have gotten a John Deere, if you haven't noticed my avatar!

  10. DEAD BATTERY. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU STARTED IT

  11. the clicking could be the soliniod yes but most likely it a near dead battery combined with a poor fuel supply to the engine... could also be to cold and need to be glow pluged

  12. Sounds like a dead battery, but that smoking when you turn on the key bothers me a bit.  Probably a short in the wiring somewhere.  Also it is probably what is causing your bad battery.  Try recharging the batteries or a jump start, but keep an eye on the smoking.  You may need a mechanic if you can't check it out yourself.

  13. What about a bad ignition switch like on my Rodeo.

(of course everything is bad on my Rodeo)
