My tree's leaves look like they have been burned off when they fall. Is this a bug or a disease?

My 12 year old white oak doesn't have any leaves left on it. Each leaf on the ground has a black edge where it was attached to the tree.

It could be oak wilt or one of many oak diseases or pests.
