  1. i agree with sensible  this is   bag worms and in time they will kill the tree better call a nuresery and get them taken care of or the tree will die big story on tv news here afew days ago really bad on pecan trees

  2. If it's truly spider and has distinct web, like below under Spider: those are good guys.  Granted the pixs here may be mostly Australian Orbs, but we have them too.  Just beautiful unless you walk into the web, then it's spooky.  Leave them alone, they are catching bad bugs.

Now I've included two other pictures, one of a fall web worm who makes an ugly mess in the trees.  These caterpillars inside will eat foliage.  While they won't kill a tree unless in huge numbers, they are ugly.

The other is the bagworm.  This guy is often mistaken for webworm like in one of the answers here.  When you hear bagworm, think individual sleeping bag, not a colony.

  3. spiders are not bad.  they eat flies and other worse insects.  if they annoy you too much, spray insecticide but watch that you don't breath the stuff or get it around kids or pets.

  4. No, you should not be concerned nor should you get rid of them.

The VAST majority of spiders are not dangerous to humans at all.  If they are out in your tree, they are killing insects like mosquitoes and flies that can be harmful to you.

I strongly suggest leaving them alone unless you're sure that they are not spiders and are hiding harmful worms or other pests.

  5. I agree that if they are spiders, leave them be.  However, Sensible may be on to something.  Do these "webs" look like classic webs, with the nice pattern and all?  Or, do they look like an amorphous blob?  If it is the blob, you have tent caterpillars or something similar, and you should kill them.  They can eat so many tree leaves that the tree dies.

  6. If you break open the "webs" you will probably find worms. I think they are called Bag Worms. These can kill trees. Find a spray made for this problem.
