My trip to rome for 8days in july - What shall I do?!?

Hey Im off to rome on 3rd of july until the 11th, I am planning on doing the bus tour for the first two days, then off to florence but what do i do for the other four days?

Rome is only half an hour away from the sea. You can get the tube to Ostia for 3 euros and that on the sea front. very clean beaches and the food is good to. Have a fantastic trip I love Rome. Florence is also very nice, lots of marble!!

enjoy yourself and take plenty of money with you, you can buy an all day pass to use the trains trams buses for about 5 euros  unlimited travel until 12 midnight.its a good way of seeing everything in your own  time, and good fun

there is more than enough to do in Rome for 8 days without ever going to florence. go to the library and get some detailed books and see what interests you. i have been loads of times and could easily fill another 8 days cos i still havent been to the tivoli gardens and the catacombs cos there was just not enought time. try www.roma2000.it for some attractions aswell and get a good map - you'll need it.

if you're 21, definitely go wine tasting.  i went in in the chianti region (tuscany, near florence) to a little village called greve where they offer all kinds of tastings:  wine, olive oil, cheese, salami and other meats, and bread.  it was really amazing....and i believe there are many places like that in that same grap region.  

or, hit the coast.  italy has nice beaches and it will be very, very hot in italy in july!

I just visited Rome for the first time two months ago and I spent 4 days there and thought that it was actually too much. Don't get me wrong, Rome is THE most beautiful city in the world (granted, I haven't been to Florence or other spectacular Italian cities) and the food and atmosphere are amazing, but I found it a little boring.

Here are my Rome recommendations:

-the Vatican- Basilica San Pietro and Musei Vaticani (amazing amazing art collection)

-Villa Borghese

-the Spanish Synagogue (very itneresting museum there on the history and culture of Roman Jews)

-the Coloseum and Palantine Hill

-the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain

-Iglesa Santa Maria Maggiore

-Iglesa San Clemente

-Castel San Angelo

-the Pantheon

All of this can be done over the course of 3 and a half days, comfortably. I really enjoyed taking a bus tour of the city and also just wandering the streets and exploring this most beautiful city. I recommend making time each day to just have a nice, small lunch at cafes in which you see locals, and enjoy some good food and good drink as you watch the world go by. Just as a heads up, Rome is a painfully expensive city (and perhaps this is why I didn't enjoy the city as much as I might have otherwise).
