My truck won't start unless I open the door.

I have a 1994 Chevy Silverado C1500 truck. In the past few weeks, my truck has a problem starting. When I turn the key, sometimes the truck starts just fine, sometimes it wouldn't start and I could hear clicking sound. I look at the battery terminal cable, and it seemed to be corroded. I cleaned it up and ensure that both contacts are clean and conductive. Last night, I got stranded at a grocery store and I got my truck jump started, then it would start okay. Obviously, the battery was bad. Today, I went to buy a new battery and had it replaced. I still couldn't start my truck unless I open the driver door and then it'll start just fine. I don't know how to troubleshoot the problem. Can anyone help?

  1. Sure...Everytime you want to start your truck......open the door.

  2. ha ha that previous answer was funny but what a dee dit dee. Try looking at the wiring to the starter solenoid. I had something similiar happen to me on my car. But my wiring to the starter uses fusible links. they are designed to melt when there is a short or over voltage condition in order to protect the wiring.  Also verify the negative battery cable from the battery to the engine block is clean at the engine side and is tight. Physically remove the bolt from the ground on the engine, clean the terminal lugs up and replace the bolt. Also look for any wires that may have been pinched by the drivers door. Typically all engine wiring goes through the firewall, but maybe the previous owner did some crazy rewiring.
