My tutee is crushing on me, I'm NOT interested, what to do?

I work at a university tutoring center, and over the past couple of weeks a particular foreign student has been coming in to get help with some research papers. He instantly noticed that, out of the entire staff, I am the most familiar with his research subject since my major is along similar tracks as his. This would be all fine, except he's taken to asking personal questions and refusing help from anyone else, even when I am in session with other students.

Today, he came into the center early in the morning, and told one of my colleagues that he wanted to wait for me. He sat in the waiting room for 4 hours until my shift began. As soon as I arrived, he jumped from his seat brandishing his jump-drive and announced he'd named the research file after me. I've already told him I am married and have kids, and I've made it clear that my interest is purely professional as I treat everyone the same. He doesn't seem to get the hint. What am I doing wrong? Co-workers were laughing!

  1. Maybe get one of your guy colleagues to be in the room during the session, or even better, your husband.

    Be careful!

  2. If he doesn't take the hint, it might be wise for you to distance yourself from him.  People may find it funny now, but eventually things may take a bad turn.

  3. Hubby to the rescue!!!!!

Not that you can't take care of yourself...but I definitely think you should let your husband know what's going on.

Naming his research file after you is borderline stalker. When you're at the gas station, and he shows up out of nowhere....then you know he has crossed that border.

Please be careful...your co-workers should NOT be laughing.

  4. hmmmm...all the makings of a stalker...

  5. Have your husband come in for the day and sit him next to your tutee. lol
