  1. if your tv only supports 720p, a cable WON'T  change your native resolution.

AV cables (meaning Red white yellow) is STANDARD DEFINITION meaning 480p.

Component Cables (meaning Red, Blue, Green, Red, and White) will give you 720p but NOT 1080p

HDMI CAN give you 1080p, but your tv only displays up to 720p. It will just downscale your picture. Mine runs something like 900p...HDMI is nice because it is one cable instead of 5 like component.

so to get 720p use either component or hdmi. Its up to you.  And whatever you do DON'T buy Monster Cables. Go for cheap hdmi cables.  Experts cant tell the difference between monster cables and generic cables other than the price...

  2. Component not composite cables are the red green and blue. If you have HDMI inputs on your tv then yes use an HDMI cable.

  3. composite cable (yellow, red, white) give you terrible picture quality. They come included in the PS3 box. Component cables (red, green, blue) give you 720p and 1080i pictures, but they are 3 plugs. HDMI gives you 720p, 1080i and 1080p with only 1 cable. Buing an HDMI cable will NOT turn ur tv into a full hd tv. The HDmI cable can display 720p signals flawlessly.
