you know when a bit of white comes on the tv screen, and your tv makes a bit of a noise? like it's more noticeable if you turn the vol down you can hear it. well , my tv just recently has been proper hissing really loud and it's got to the point where it's annoying. just wondering will the tv shop/manufacturer help or replace the tv or what?

i believe it's coming from the back of the tv. to stop it, i usually give the back of the plasma a tap..but this is like what they do in cartoons & i dont really want to be doing that.

  1. have you seen the film White Noise???

  2. If this is an old TV & you are seeing a hissing sound, it should be mostly some big capacitors in your TVs power supply unit. Check it with a technician.

  3. What your are hearing is most likely the power supply components or maybe the internal cooling fan(if it has one).

    some what normal with age.

What happens is that when an all white or very bright picture is displayed the display may need to ramp up the output voltage to compensate. Thus more power, more heat, more noise. It can be quite normal for most display, especially CRT, but it can also point to a problem. Such as the powersupply going bad, or its about to burst into flames. But if it is as loud as you make it seem, It may be worth a service call to have it checked, many times there can be a simple voltage adjustment and your all good.

But simply making some adjustments can work too...

Double D is in the ballpark, but i wouldn't just go and adjust color or any other one setting as this will messup you picture qaulity. (e.g. you cant adjust brightness without also adjusting contrast or it will s***w up the picture.)

if you have a TEST dvd put it on 100% white, if not find a bright scene in a DVD and pause it. Make sure you hear the noise either way.

Now try simply adjusting your Brightness setting down, if the sound starts to go away the further down you go, then theres hope.

Next reset the brightness and look through the video settings for something like GAMMA, or presets like movie, game, day, etc.

If GAMMA: try the different options and find one that gives you acceptable picture without the noise and your good.

    If PRESET: Same as gama.

IF both: see what works best.

Oh yeah...and stop smacking it, as that is obviously not helping:)

  4. you need to change your color tones, its in the menu area. find some white to test it on....adjust till its gone...

  5. Are you watching from a satellite dish because mine used to be like that?
