My twelve year old sister, took an IQ test..And has been down on herself since..?

She scored 117, which I said was above average, in general. She only has up to a sixth grade education so far. My mom didn't want her to take the test in the first place, because they aren't very accurate at gaging intelligence, because there is so much more to people than a number. What can I say to make her feel better about her score?

That isn't even a bad score! 120 is considered "genius" and it's not really your age that matters at all because you can't really learn to think logically if you're not a logical person, and IQ tests are logic based tests.

You should just tell her that there is no test, no piece of paper that can tell the world how smart you are, not matter how much research goes into it. It's just a test!

IQs don't define a person. It's what you do with your intellect that defines you. If you decide to use that intellect and succeed in school, you may go to a good college and get a good job in this bad economy. But if you decide to s***w up, then that IQ won't matter.

I believe that people are born unequally (some are more gifted than others, some are born richer) but they die equally (death is inevitable to everyone despite gender, race, sexuality, wealth, age, etc.)

Tell her that the average IQ is 100. IQ tests are more for adults to take because they have finished school, and it may not be accurate for someone that is still learning in school. For her to get a score of 117 at the age of only 12, that is amazing!

tell her that she is well above avrage cos the avarage is 100 and that she is bieng silly because she is ver very smart and even that iq tests arnet completly accurate and that if she really wants to no then she should tae a proper real 1

Maybe you could bring her somewhere special, like a restaurant or somewhere fun to celebrate her IQ test score,  then maybe she will realize that her score is not so bad. =)

You could also encourage her by telling her "my friend has an IQ score like yours and she's really really smart" etc..
