My two 10's be louder than my one 12?

Question

Two Rockford Fosgate punch 1 10" subs in their optimum sized box.

They are both getting 200RMS coming to a total or 400RMS or cea compliant power.

Having two 10's, making 20" of SA.

I switched to a Pioneer Premier 12" getting the amps full 400RMS.

What is louder?

Im saying my 12 is deeper cleaner bass but my 10's seem so be punchier and louder.

What would literally be the louder ones because my dad is being a douche and telling me i have to get rid of the 12 and put my 10's back in.

Personal opinion i would say the pioner would be better but thats just me.

Ahhh ... the 2 x 10's vs 1 - 12".  I interchange both in my current setup depending on my music listening mood and trunk space requirements.  Your analysis is pretty much right on.  Your 12 will definitely get lower & deeper ... but your pair of 10's will definitely push more air and thus knock harder & probably louder.  

For myself, my 10's are in a smaller, sealed enclosure ... which works well for me when I listen to rock, metal & industrial stuff.  My single 12 is in a huge, slot ported enclosure which works well for me when I listen to R & B and the radio in particular.  My 12 will definitely get higher SPL levels then my 2 10's playing this type of music, but this is mostly because of the enclosure.

no...having two 10's is not 20" of surface area. 2 10's is *about* 127 square inches of cone area. your 12" has about 95 square inches of cone area. given the same power, and both setups in their optimized boxes, the setup with more cone area will typically be louder, since it's moving more air, thus creating more pressure. so your 10's should be louder.

also...you can easily build a ported box, tune low, and get that deeper bass you say you're getting from your 12

then just keep the 10's and get them in a good ported box to get the lows out of them.....shoot for a tuning of about 34Hz.
