Question:

My two canaries keep ripping their paper?

I have two canaries, one girl, one boy, both adults. They are in one cage with a divider in between them because anytime they are in one cage the male is really mean so we divided them immediately. We are considering giving them back to the breeder because we are getting a dog and sometimes they really can be a burden. But that's not the problem. I put in posters I get from M Magazine and there's nothing toxic about them. Just they keep ripping them, A LOT! They put it in their water and food and I have to keep changing them constantly.

Another problem is that she keeps sitting in her food like she does when she lays an egg (infertile ALWAYS) but they're nothing under her. Why do they do this and how can you stop it?

  1. First off there is nothing you can do to stop it. They are just nesting. She is using her food dish as a bowl or shelf where she considers it safe it lay her eggs. The paper they tear up is like leaves or other things they would find in the wild to put in their nest. If you want fertile eggs you have to leave the c**k & the hen together, all the time.

  2. its totaly normole thats why they have paper toys for birds they love ripping it. but please dont take chances even if it isnt toxic it can still cause problems if they eat some  of it. spend the extra few dollars and get some cage nesting they have it at pet stores you can get some that last for a couple of months for about four bucks
