My two indoor cats are not active and do not enjoy toys? How do I get them to play and have fun?

I have two indoor cats (7 and 2). I have a harness and a leash but I worry about them running away, because one is very sketchy and frightened of everything. They have a billion toys and I try to play with them with a feather wand but no one is interested. The 7 year old just sleeps and the 2 year old plays around about once a day. I realize that their diet is not so great right now, so I am switching to a healthy wet food diet soon. How do I encourage play? They are not overweight at all, just lazy!

I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD CAT AND I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE BORINGGGGGGG! LIKE THE OLDER THEY GET THE MORE BORING THEY ARE! I TRY INVITING THEM TO PLAY WITH LONG STRINGS AND THEY ACTUALLY PLAY WITH IT! TRY IT! MY CATS HATES EVERYTHING ELSE EXCEPT STRINGS! ALL CATS LIKE WHEN YOU TAKE THE STRING AND MOVE IT VERY FAST NEAR TO THEM.TRY IT!
