Question:

My two kittens are trying to kill each other...

I picked up this stray about a week ago. I have named him Wee-Man. We got him all of his shots, and he'll be getting neutered on Sept 13.

The problem is...he's on his own with our 3 big cats, they won't let him mess with them. We have a kitten who is about 10 weeks (same as the stray) and they are trying to kill each other. They've drawn blood on each other already.

For the most part, I keep Wee-Man in the second bedroom when the other kitten is out. When i let Wee-man out of the bed room to play, I put the other kitten (elly) in the masterbedroom. He seems to leave the big cats alone, aside from trying to play with their tails.

Wee-Man gets highly aggressive with the other kitten though, they both do, and when I seperate them, he claws and bites the c**p out of me, basically throwing a tempertantrum. A life locked in a bedroom is no life at all, but how do I get them to just get along...it's been a week, and they've made no progress...perhaps they've stepped backwards.

If anyone can help...please, help. Thanks

  1. sounds like a normal rite o passage...a new interloper coming in on an already calmed and established territory.....

chances are they will totally work it out..be careful getting in the middle..

you could always try the spray bottle method..when they go at it spray them with a little water..it will keep u out of the middle and discourage them from the behavior..good luck.

  2. he probably is scared. teach him no. use a spray bottle. two rooms might have to work if nothing changes. good luck!

  3. spray all the cats and kittens( if over 10 weeks old) with a strong Cologne . polo is what i used. makes all cats small the same 1 squeeze is good

  4. It took a week of my 2 cats (15 weeks and 18 months) ripping into each other before they sorted themselves out.  I think the best idea is to keep the one who is being hurt seperate at night to avoid emotional trauma, and in the day/when you can keep an eye on them-=just let them go at it, if it gets too nasty, then the water spray sounds a good way of stopping it.

It sounds horrid, but they are just establishing the boundaries.  Honestly, give it a couple of weeks they will be fine.  Mine are the best of friends now, they curl up together-where you find one the other will be-it's so cute.  Hope it works out :-)

  5. Keep one cat on one side of the door and another on the other. They should be kept close to the door. They will be able to tell that there is a cat on the other side by hearing and smell. After awhile try and socialize them.

  6. I would suggest trying to put them in crates and have them face each other from the other side of the room. Then they can get used to each other. If that doesn't work then go back to what you've been doing.
