my son is two months old. he went in for his checkup and i explained to the ped. what was going on with him. she says that he has reflux and a hernia. she also said that it should go away on its own and switched his formula to a soy based one. but my baby spits up all day and cries pretty much all day. his cry is more like a painful cry.....like if something is hurting him. his stomach stays hard and his belly button sticks out all the time. so i dont know what to do. i have tried mylocon drops....but it does not seem to work. i cant just let my baby stay in discomfort all day. does any one have any suggestions?

  1. if you dont

trust the first doctor and hes not

getting better he might need to be

    seen by somebody else.

  2. We had real problems with our little man, for about the first six months but noticably for the first few.  He was often very sick, bringing up most of his feeds and seemed to be in constant discomfort, particularly when he was laid flat.  We found two things helped.  First we switched his formula to Cow & Gate Comfort (I'm not sure if you have this where you are but it's a much thicker formula) and we also took him for a few sessions of Cranial Osteopathy.  We had read a lot about this and his symptoms seemed consistant, particularly as we had a fairly difficult birth with him being stuck in the birth canal for some time, putting pressure on his head.  It's amazing how many problems can be attributed to head pressure during birth!  I'd look into it.  The Osteopaths were really helpful and had far more experience with children in discomfort than the doctors we saw had.  Hope this helps. x

  3. My son has colic, it is now starting to subside. He is 12 weeks old. Around 4 weeks old, he would cry for hours at a time and he was in so much pain. This was due to his gas and colic. Is your baby breastfed or on formula? My son is breastfed and there are certain foods that can go through your milk and bother your baby. Dairy products really bothered my son, as well as peanuts. I took these out of my diet and this helped with his irritability somewhat. If you formula feed your baby, then you might want to put him on the Similac Hypoallergenic formula - it is made for babies with colic. I supplement with formula a few times a week and this is what I give my son. It is expensive, about twice the amount of regular formula, but if your son is not able to digest regular formula, this will definitely be worth the money.

I then looked online for ways to treat colic and came across a LIFESAVER!!! It is called Gripe Water. This made my son so much happier because it lets him relieve his gas with ease. The gas drops did not work for my son but the gripe water works wonders. It also helps with acid reflux and as time goes on, you will have to give your baby less and less because the gripe water heals your baby's tummy. I am not sure where you live but I found the Gripe Water at Walgreens. I prefer the Baby Bliss because it does not have to be refrigerated which makes it easier to put in the diaper bag and have it on hand at all times. I also bought a different dropper because the one that is included is a syringe and the flow is too fast for them to swallow without choking on it. The gripe water runs about $11 a bottle, which may seem expensive but is well worth the money to help your little one not be in pain anymore! Believe me, seeing the difference in my son's deamoner was worth every penny I have spent the last 8 weeks. Now his colic is subsiding and he is such a happy baby. So if this is what is causing your son pain, it will help with the gripe water and it should get better in about a month or so because colic usually wears off around 3 months.

It also could be the hernia bothering him. I work at a daycare center and one of the babies there had a hernia and she would cry alot during the day. She got the hernia removed and is so much happier. You might want to consult the doctor again about the hernia and do more tests to rule that out. I hope this helps!

  4. TAKE HIM TO A HOSPITAL!!!!!!

  5. Did the doc say anything about colic? Because everything you described is exactly how my daughter was at that age. She went from a cow's milk based formula to a soy formula...then she started getting the same problems on the soy, so they switched her to Enfamil Nutramigen which is a hypoallerginic formula. Something to look into perhaps.

  6. Call your doctor and ask what you can do so your baby isn't in pain and discomfort. It's all you can do at this point until it goes away. Poor baby:( Hope he feels better soon

  7. Miralax... It works great and is ok to give everyday.  It does not cramp the baby. It is a stool softner. not a laxative. I is wonderful. good luck

  8. I personally would get a second opinion.  If the formula change has not worked nor the gas drops your baby could just have colic (bowel irritability) or it could be something worse.  Contact another pediatrician associated with your insurance and make an appointment.  Make sure to write down all the symptoms and what time of day and what is done just before they occur.  Be prepared with all your questions.   If there is ever profuse vomiting, bloody stools or high fever take the baby to your local emergency room. Never give any medication or home remedies with out the advice form a doctor. You could cause irreversible damage to the kidneys or liver.  Good luck.

  9. Take him to ED straight away his tummy should not stay hard he could have a blockage in his bowell. And tell them you want answers today instead of them stuffing you around!

  10. get another docs opinion. no doctor should allow a baby to stay in so much pain.

  11. My son was miserable when he was a baby.  He had vomiting, crying all the time and was just not right.  I was breastfeeding then switched to soy formula.  Later I found out he was allergic to soy.  If I were you I might try to breastfeed if it isn't too late.  Or try a different formula or different doctor.  If you feel something isn't right keep asking for answers!!

  12. Take him to a different doctor or the emergency room.
