My two year old had diarrohoea for five days even though I have not fed him for 27hrs. What next? How long?

How long can it last? What action should i be expectinf from my doctor next? Toddler is hungry, but I am not feeding him. He is drinking water with sugar and a tiny pinch of salt/

Who in the world told you not to feed your child for 27 hours? Are you crazy. Give your child Gatorade, pedilyte, applesauce, bananas, dry toast, and rice to eat. Its called the BRAT diet and its good to be on when you have diarrhea or a stomach flu.

He obviously needs food and starving him is not the answer. If he not getting minerals and vitamins from food how the h**l you expect him to get better from this bug?

Feed the poor boy - it is actually neglect to not feed a child especially for five days.

He needs to eat and have water or he will get dehydrated.  Try the BRAT diet.  Banans, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

Hi sounds like a roto virus

My nephew has had very similar since Friday ,spoke to doctor yesterday and his advice was to offer only sips of flat lemonade, or  7up make sure it's not diet. If not any improvement by tomorrow I would bring him to see doctor as small children can get dehydrated very quickly. Hope your little man is over the worst of it by now.

I can't believe all the abuse you are getting on here!!!  Shows how ignorant some people are.  Maybe people should check standard treatment for diarrhoea before they come on here giving the wrong advice and casting judgement on a good mother that is treating her child correctly for his medical condition.  Why on earth would you suggest feeding a child with a stomach bug come on people keep it too yourself

No - he needs the BRAT diet, after a couple hours of resting his system. You can't just give him sugar water.

Gatorade or Pedialyte would be a wise idea too - AFTER YOU TAKE HIM TO THE DR for an evaluation. He could be dehydrated now and need an IV to stabalize.

Please honey - go directly to doctor or emergency room or at least have someone buy you Pedialite.  You can never stop feeding your child and do not give them sugar water.  You did the right  thing by asking this question - now get going!

You should try feeding him the BRAT diet.

This way he is still getting some food.  This diet is recommended by doctors for children with upset stomachs and diarhea.  Make sure you give him lots of water and pedialyte (1/2 Powerade/Gatorade and water).

This is just terrible no child should be left for this long with diarrhoea after 2 days a child should be taken to the GP to see why he has it, my son had food poisoning at this age and was dehydrated and ended up on a drip in hospital for three days, and you should never give a child sugar and salt mixture you should get the proper sachets fro the chemist or GP if your in the UK i suggest you call NHS direct or get to your local hospital

You need to make sure he gets to a doctor immediately. Diarrhea dehydrates quickly. He should be drinking Pedialyte, not sugar water. The Pedialyte has the electrolytes he needs in it. Did the doc tell you not to feed him? I would think he could eat the BRAT diet...bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast. I hope he feels better!
