He can identify and name each letter of the alphabet in lower or capital case. He can also give you a word that starts with that letter. I am amazed at how quickly he learned all of this! Is this a normal achievement for a 2 year old?

  1. Nope not all that advanced.  My daughter could count to over 100 at two, she was doing mathematical calculations before her 3rd birthday and was reading at the age of three (and not kiddie books).  She could identify paralellagrams and the differences between an Isoseles and Equilateral Triangles.  She knew all primary colors before she was two and by two knew secondar and tertiary colors as well.  Now at age 11 she will be entering her first year of high school this August (she was promoted two grades during elementary school), her IQ is at 165 and she is a member of MENSA.  THATS advanced.

  2. i am a preschool teacher of 3-5 year olds and i would say YES! that is great! My daughter is 3 and she now can identify all the letters and tell you something that they begin with. That is wonderful at 2. Because I have seen a lot of older children that cannot do this. Good for him! He'll be reading before you know it!

  3. He's advanced.  Congratulations!

  4. I think that's normal, if a bit advanced.  I was reading at two.

  5. It can be, especially if they have older siblings, or someone that consistenly works with them day after day. Some preschool's teach children very young things like that.

My son cannot identify letters/numbers yet (capital, or lower case) or numbers - he turned 2 in Marxh.

If your son is closer to 3 that could be good reasoning also. :)

  6. Very smart. Be prepared to provide him with alot of educational stimulus. He may love music and you can  teach him numbers.

I hope you have books to read to him.
