Question:

My uncle Junior D. Edwards died in the Korean war on 1/2/1951, and i can't find out anything about him.

I know from the family Bible that Junior D. Edwards died in the Korean war on 1/2/51 and is buried at the family plot at Indianola, Iowa. Was a sergeant in the US-ARMY 2d inf., Div.And he was born on 10/7/26. Will someone give me more info on him?

    Korean War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry in action in Korea on January 2, 1951. He charged enemy positions three separate times, throwing hand grenades. On his third charge, he was mortally wounded. Edwards was assigned to Co. E, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.     Notes: Sergeant First Class Edwards was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On January 2, 1951, when his platoon was required to withdraw from a strategic hill near Changbong-ni, South Korea, it came under vicious fire from an enemy machine-gun on adjacent high ground. Singlehandedly, he charged the emplacement throwing grenades and expelling the enemy. Although wounded, he twice again assaulted the position annihilating the crews. During his third assault he was mortally wounded. For his leadership and great valor, Sergeant First Class Edwards was awarded the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
