Question:

My uncle asked to borrow our van over the weekend. my hubby and i said yes.?

the van broke down on him 5 hrs away from home. he had it towed. whose insurance is responsible for towing bill his or ours? who is responsible for repairing van? btw he still hasn't called us to tell us it's broke down. we found out from the towing guy!

  1. Your insurance MAY cover the towing. Depends on your policy. The repairs will be yours unless the Uncle wants to help out or was doing something stupid that caused the breakdown (you would still need to prove that). Many people will tell you the insurance follows the vehicle (as I have seen here already) but this is not true in all States or with all insurance companies.


  2. Your insurance should cover it. Insurance follows vehicles, not people. You insured the van, not you & your husband. You are also responsible for repairing it, it's not like he purposely broke it. And it would have broke down on you if you were driving it!

  3. It's your vehicle, so your towing coverage would apply.  Why would your uncle be responsible for the repairs if it broke down?

  4. in texas you insurance if you have towing coverage and you own the van so the repairs are yours to pay.
