  1. Yes. plug the ethernet cable into a modem that has wireless cababilities. Lots of Linksys modems do nowadays.  


  2. Well, it all depends on the router!  A Cable/DSL router is an ethernet device with ethernet input! A DSL router usually is a router with a DSL Modem built in and is not suitable for ethernet connections on the WAN/Internet side!

    Just remember there is a difference in a Modem and a Router!  Some routers have a built in Modem some do not, those that do not include a modem will route within an ethernet network (what comes out of a DSL Modem or a Cable Modem is ethernet!)

    Now all that being said - you better know the rules at your Uni!  Many do not allow wireless routers within the network - cause for dismissal! SO CHECK THE RULES!  This is done for network security as each AP (access point) creates a potential hole into the system!
