My unit has mold! Who is responsible?

We have a disgusting mold problem that seems to be taking over my unit, it has ruined my shoes and makes my cloths smell. GROSS! We've taken some steps to remedy this problem. We've invested in a large de-humidifyer and have bleached and de-molded our unit ourselves. Still, the mold comes back with a vengence. I was wondering what the next step would be? Is it solely my flatmates and my responsiblity, or do we complain to the landlord/rental manager? Thanks!

  1. I report it to the property manager and if they do nothing call the building department for an inspection. Mold is a health hazard.

  2. Was the mold present before you moved in?  If so you need to talk to your manager and it should be their responsibility to remedy it.  If the mold is getting bad in the sense that it is effecting the unit I would definitely speak with the manager and let them know.  They may help you remedy the situation. Also the problem may be deeper than you think so I would definitely get management involved.
