My usb modem keeps disappearing

my usb modem keeps disappearing one minue it is there and on divice manager and then the next it isnt. just keeps falling off I have reinstalled both the usb and the modem and nothing seems to stop it. its as if the usb is switching itself on and off and then puter says not present
