I squat the lowest when the ball is being hit back over and i am one of the 3 people who even call the ball. At first i wasnt doing very well ( 7th best) but that was 3 weeks ago! Its hurting our team and me! what should i do?

  1. Focus on what you're doing right and not what anyone else is doing wrong. Your coach is playing you as a Serving Specialist, and that's one of the toughest positions on the team, so take that as a compliment. Maybe your coach also sees that your passing needs some improvement, so take some extra time to work on the fundamentals. Also, let your coach know that you want to improve and ask for any extra help you can get. By asking for help, she will see that you want more experience, and your play-time will go up.

  2. You really have to talk to your coach.  Try asking her, "What do I need to do to get more playing time?"

As a coach, I appreciate players who pluck up their courage to talk to me about playing time rather than being negative and bringing the rest of the team down.  (But I also do my best to make sure every team member knows his or her role, especially the non-starters.  I have heard that this is not the usual practice.)

During practices, be super positive and supportive of your teammates.  Your coach is probably watching your body language and listening to what you say, so if you're behaving in a negative or unsupportive way, you're making it difficult for her to keep you on the court during matches.

  3. Be glad you're not the bad girl who is getting played...she's probably embarrassed and the team hates her..so if YOU can't play, help your team and try to help this girl become better.

  4. How are you ranking yourself? You cant say what number best because everyone is a different position. Maybe you have a bad attitude. Make sure you don't come across as cocky for being "5th best".

Video tape a game and analyze what other girls do well that you could improve. Also watch and see how you act on the bench. Make sure to cheer.
