Question:

My van is over local road weight limits - what do I do?

The van is just for camping, but due to its weight (8900 lbs) it has "Commercial" on the license plate. Other than that it is just a big white van, no markings or anything. The posted truck weight limits around my suburb are often "4 Tons". So am I breaking the law whenever I drive on them?

  1. 1. It is not a commercial vehicle

    2. You must obey any and all weight restrictions or pay the fines when you get caught (plus penalty points). If your vehicle should damage a bridge by being over weight the highways authority can also claim repair costs from you personally (not your insurance)

  2. shouldnt be commerical because you are not using it for business

  3. If it is just for camping, it cant be commercial.  There are 16000 pound RV's that drive around without commercial plates.

  4. its an rv so it shouldnt be a problem, also you get 5 miles to reach your destination or to find a safe place to turn around (legally).  Ive hauled heavy equipment and have done city deliveries as well and i ABUSE that rule on a regular basis!!
