  1. Vets don't actually know a lot about nutrition, so many of them actually believe Science Diet is a good food because the company tells them so and it's expensive.

  2. most vets carry science diet b/c its one of only about 3 or 4 brands that have rx diets. your dog probably doesnt need an rx diet.

  3. From my experience, a vet gets some small monetary gift for promoting a specific brand, (ie, Science Diet).  I think they also feel a bit like sellouts, and therefore, don't verbally recommend it, but allow you to see it there, and make your own decisions.

  4. A lot of the Science Diet products sold at vet offices are specific formulas for certain conditions,  like C/D for dogs with bladder problems, etc.  While I know some people using the prescription diets with good results, if you have the option of not buying any Science Diet, there are many better food choices.

Add:  What you're feeding is an excellent food, stick with it.

  5. My vet has some of the Science Diet in her office as well but it is all the RX type.  However, if you ask my dog what food you should feed your dog, she will tell you Eagle Pack.

Have you every asked your vet what food she recommends? Or has the vet asked you what you are feeding your dog?
