My vet says my cat has irritable bowel syndrome and might not get better. Is it true?

the vet gave it injections (I don't know what) and I tried oral medications like bactrim, dexamethsone, augumentin and all that. And no milk. But there is no real improvement. What else can I do?

How long has it been, a couple of hours?  Your cats vet is there to help you help your cat.  I get a sense from reading your Question you have given your cat milk.  Well its no wonder your cat has irritable bowel syndrome.  YOU DON'T GIVE CATS MILK!  Let's not second guess the vet.  Instead listen to the him/her, he/she is looking out for you pet.

There may be hope.  I'm not a vet and you haven't given any additional details so I can only guess.  There are factors that determine how much improvement you might see.  But typically it's NOT a death sentence!

My own cat developed IBD/IBS at 14 years of age.  She lived to 20.  All I had to do was give her Prednisone every day.

These days I know more about the disease and would attempt to control it through diet alone.

EDIT:  The first vet I saw didn't bother to diagnose Martha, but instead said "she's old she probably has cancer or diabetes, she's going to die."  The SECOND vet did diagnose her and gave us hope that she could have a future.

I believe THAT'S what you're looking for - hope.  And why should anyone blame you for that?

this is a first, most people ask people on here and then everyone tells them to call a vet. you saw a vet and now ur asking us? if your vet says its true then it is, you should rely on your vet before people on here because your vet has credentials to back it up. keep following the advice of your vet, and if the problem persists, see another vet, just give it a little time. your cat will be okay.
