My vhs player/recorder will fail

Question

My vhs player/recorder will fail to eject, because the tape gets caught around what I would call a capstain post and when I forcefully pull out the tape, the tape hangs up and I have to manually lift the tape up over that post that has it caught. I usually end up with about 1 ft. of tape that is badly wrinkled and sometimes I just ruin the tape. What will solve my problem
