My videocam and laptop have firewire ports. when both connected thru cable, still laptop can't detect.?

the os of my laptop is vista home premium.

my camcorder is jvc gr-d230u.

both camcorder and laptop have 4 pin firewire ports.

  1. Have you tried the JVC support site for your camera?? Your PC may not have the drivers for your camera.


  2. The camcorder has to be switched on in "play" mode.  If that doesn't work, try connecting everything, switching on the camcorder and then booting the PC.  If that still doesn't work go into Device Manager (Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager), expand the IEEE1394 Bus Host Controller, right click on the firewire device in there and disable it.  Now reboot the PC and everything should be detected as Vista starts.
