  1. the violin thingy is a peg and it is supposed to be stiff......you are going to want to push the peg in towards the body of the violin and twist it to tune it.......the pegs are only meant to tune violins the are extremely out of tune if you need to make a string sharper or flatter just use the little metal dials at the base of the violin.

if you turn those dials clockwise the pitch of the string will get sharper we as if you adjust the dials counter clockwise you will flatten the pitch of the string.

  2. Hi Kaaza

I imagine you are talkingabout the violin peg themself. You should buy E-string adjusters to fine tune your violin. It will be much easier and more precise.

Violin pegs are meant to be stiff and should not be oiled either.  You canput a tiny bit of wax or soap to ease the tuning.

  3. It should be stiff, but if it's so stiff that you have to use both hands to move it, then use a teensy bit of petroleum jelly. Just a little, cuz a little goes a long way =]

  4. Remove the peg from the peg box (1 only)  rub some pencil lead liberally on the area that normally come in contact with the holes in the peg box.

Pencil lead or graphite is a lubricant

Chalk works the same way for a slipping peg.

If you have problems with more than one peg.  Do one, tune the instrument and do the next.

This is going to take 5 to 15 minutes per peg.
