  1. Maybe your coach isn't strict enough to really get your head in the game or maybe your teamates have lost intrest in volleyball

  2. We have the same exact problem we also just got 3rd in our tourney yesterday. i dont know about you but we have one girl on our team who is probably out strongest hitter. if she misses a few hits in a row or gets used while she is blocking she gets really upset and shutsdown and basically gives up. the team encourages her as much as possible w/o yelling or blaming people and it brings her and the rest of the team up again.

It has nothing to do with the coach as stated above. all the coach can do is call a time out and encourage you even more!just shake the mistakes off and dont let it happen again. think to yourself I will dig the next ball, I will get a kill the next time. It will be a prefect set next time. think ahead about what you are going to do. the last point is over so dont dwell on the past, just think ahead.

make sure you talk a lot everyone should be talking all the time if you pass call mine or the person's name who is passing. Call out the number of blockers for your hitter. it does help!

  3. we used to have that problem on my volleyball team too. when one person made a mistake, everyone got all stressed out and started making mistakes too. so what we do is " keep the intensity up" by cheering out loudest when we make a point, and " shake it off " when we make a mistake. so pretty much what ya gotta do is not make it a big deal when you lose a point, you just gotta get back out there and try your hardest the second time.

    hope this helped. =]

  4. my varsity team just competed in our second tournament yesterday (3/15/08) and got first place. this is the second tournament we won this year, although in the middle of this one, we almost fell apart. when we get down, or make a mistake, we go out and "get the next one". during the semis, we were playing a extremely tough team that we had beat out for first in the last tournament. in the second game, the other team had a run of five or six points. the points came of an ace and some setting and hitting errors. each player on the court made at least one error, but when the got another chance, the made the perfect play. we ended up winning the game because no-one gave up, or made the same mistake twice. my advise is never get down on anyone, yourself or, your teammates. keep positive. if you s***w up on a hit, ask for the next set and get a great kill. if you s***w up on a pass, make sure the next one is perfect. if you s***w up on a set, make sure you set that player a perfect set. you get my point. always congratulate everyone, and get your bench into the game. yesterday, we tried out a new setter against a not so strong team. he did great, but the reason he did great was because our entire bench was behind him and our team. one more thing, always talk on the court. if your passing yell "mine" or "i go" or whatever you like to say. if someone else passes the ball call out their name. when a hitter goes up, call out how many blockers are up and what their options are like "one up, line" or "two up, go angle". this takes some of the stress of the hitter looking for the block and the ball at the same time. even if something is trivial, talk about it. talking is one of the most effective strategies my team uses to get out of slumps.

good luck with your season and if you need any more help, just email me

  5. I deal with the same problem on my club volleyball team. The best thing to do is get pumped up before a game. Play "Little Sally Walker" or "Ride That Pony" or "Big Booty". We did this and won our tournament. Also encourage your team. Tell them good try after their mistakes.

  6. just start focusing on the game more and thats all i have to say. ok?

  7. your coach needs to be stricter, but you guys need to pay attention to the little skills that cost you those few extra points.

  8. we had trouble like that too. but the night b4 a tourn. or game we would all stay the night at some ones house and have the best time and make up little inside jokes... just between the team and watch volley ball movies.... then the next day if some one kept messing up we would get together and say the few words of our inside joke to kinda pick ppls heads up.... if that hepls any :)

  9. I am on a very good team as well and when we make mistake, we just pretend it has never happened, because if we do then we will get down on ourselves and fall behind. We  make up a cheer and it goes, "Oops on 3, 123 our bad" it shows the other team it didn't bother you and you just keep playing like it never happened. If just on of the players are getting down because they keep making mistakes then try to avoid letting the ball get near them. If the other team sees that you are down then they will take advantage of that and give the ball to the same person because they are pretty sure they'll mess up because they are mad. So just try to cheer someone up if they are down. They need a captain out there that will help them and not get down on themselves and help others out. You should take control and be that person. The coaches would appreciate it a lot.
