My volume control icon has vanished off my taskbar, how do I get it back?

I have tried going into control panel and have ticked the "place shortcut in taskbar" but it just doesn't happen. Have gone into the taskbar properties and unchecked the "hide inactive icons" but no new icons appeared. It used to be there and I can't think of anything that happened, no errors or anything like that. I'm at a loss for what to try next. Any ideas?

  1. just go to, start, all programs, accessibility, entertainment...

  2. go to start>control panel>sounds speech and audio devices>sounds and audio devices and then check the box that says "place volume icon in the task bar"

  3. right click with start -properties -taskbar -look to not check "lock the taskbar " and go again in control panel to place shorcut in taskbar . good luck !

  4. 1.  Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2.  Click Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices.

    3.  Under Pick a task, click Change the speaker settings.

    4.  In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, on the Volume tab, select the Place volume icon in the taskbar check box, and then click OK.

Have you rebooted the computer?  Sounds silly I know but this usually will resolve silly problems.
