Question:

My wall A/C no longer drips water in the back. Should I be worried?

This started happening after I tried cleaning the back of the A/C, rinsed it out with water. Since then the amount of water dripping when the A/C is on has been decreasing, now it's bone dry in the back. But the A/C seems to be working fine? Is it possible that the water is dripping into the wall itself? Should I be concerned? Thanks.

  1. It could be. I can't believe that there would be no condensation at all. And it will eventually start affecting the cooling as that water helps keep the coils outside cool.

Make sure it is still tilted to the back and also that it is not stopped up

  2. A properly working unit will certainly make condensate water, but the less humid it is in the space being cooled, the less condensate you'll get.

    Hope this helps.

  3. You might have a "slinger ring" fan ---- which picks up the drain water and slings it into the warm condenser coil . This aids greatly in cooling.

This could be where the drain water is going --- it evaporates when it hits the hot coil.

Another  -- is that the slinger ring is slinging the water out the side vents of the case. Look for rust/discoloration around the side vents.

Water runs downhill --- make sure the unit is tilted back slightly to allow this , and not running inside.

Another reason might be a low freon R-22 charge --- just low enough to decrease the "sweat" , but still providing some cooling to take place. Touch the front coil(evap coil) after it has run a while for moisture(sweat). Your palm of the hand should have sweat water on it.

  4. Yea, I would be concerned. If the A/C is cooling, the condensation has got to be going somewhere. If not out the drain, then where?

I would check around the evaporator on the inside unit. That is where that pipe originates from. A lot of times it gets clogged up in there or somewhere in between. If you have an air pressure hose, give it shot of air through that pipe and see if that clears it up. Good luck

  5. The outlet is probably blocked up with junk, you need to slide it out of it's frame and clean it, there should be screws that you undo at the front and underneath,( at the front also), but if this is not an option for you then try poking something up through the hole.

  6. You might have tilted it forward while cleaning it needs to be tipped back a little.  It should drip out the back.
