  1. sounds like the brushes have gone.its an easy repair you could do yourself, brushes cost £12.99 a pair.if you get an engineer in it will cost about £50 depends if you want to spend that or get a new one.

  2. This is a job you can do yourself instead of paying out loads of money for a repair-man. I've done it a few times for myself and for friends and is relatively easy. The brushes / bushes ( can never remember what they're called but its one of these, they mean the same thing ha ha ). Get the machine make and model number and phone your nearest electrical supplier for a quote on the cost of the brushes. They're about £15 / £18 for the two ( they come in pairs as you cannot replace just one ). Unplug the machine from the wall and remove the top and back of the washer. Looking at the back of the machine, there'll be two screws at either corner, remove them and push the lid forward then lift it off. you'll see the screws then to remove the back sheet of metal that covers the drum ( in some machines you don't have to remove this but it might come in handy for ease of access to the motor ). The motor, the part you want, is located at the top of the drum, normally on the right hand top side as you're standing at the front of the machine. You'll see wires coming out of the motor on either side and either directly on top of these wires or directly underneath the brushes will be. You have to pull these out but mind your hands - they're filthy ha ha. When replacing the new ones be mindful to read the instructions very carefully because if you pull the small arm on them too much they're ruined and you'll need another set of new ones! Push the new brushes into the holes exactly as you took them out and listen for the click. Replace the back and the top and run some old towels through a wash for a test run. If you cannot afford new brushes just yet you can still pull out the old brushes and very gently pull the black bit out further than it is, but be very gentle as its like charcoal and will break easily, replace them and carry on washing until you get the new ones. All you need for this job is a screwdriver and some pliers and a gentle hand ha ha, best of luck to you.

  3. before you part with cash is it under warranty still

if not check the filter and the feed to the pump as some washers wont spin if the pump isn't working and it may work if you clear any debris out
