My washing machine is leaking, what do I do?

It doesn't seem to be leaking from the hose that leads into the drain pipe. The water seems to be coming from underneath the machine. Do I need professional, or can I DIY this?.

  1. It's probably your center post gasket. Go buy the repair manual for about 15 dollars, then buy the part you need, take both of them home and replace it.  Retain the manual for future use.

  2. Check the hoses for leaks, and if none are apparent, call the repairman.

If you do find hose leaks, replace the rubber washers at the hose connections.  This usually takes care of the problem.  Occasionally an old hose will split or crack, but this is a rarity.  In this case replace the hoses.

We went through this around the 4th of July.  After checking every thing that we could repair or replace, we called the repairman, and he replaced the pump.

  3. I'd strongly suggest a repairman.
