I don't know what the problem is yet so it needs to be taken a look at. I am very scared of getting taken a loan of.

  1. Look through the back of your local paper. You will find people willing to do a free call out and estimate. Don't forget that an estimate is different from a quotation. On the other hand a call-out charge is about £25.00 from local people. If the repairer is honest he may advise you to buy a new one. You can get one for about £200 these days.

  2. You can buy a reconditioned washing machine with a guarantee for approximately £90.

It would help here if you described the fault. Sometimes it can be a very simple fault to fix.

  3. £60 probably. Buy a second hand one might be an option worth looking at.  Secondhand shops and charity shops which do them are usually around.

Get your friendly neighbour to use his truck and take it away - they are easy to disconnect as well as install.

  4. Think the call out charge varies from area to area and it can depend if you actually call out the manufacturer or a recommended appliance repairer.  I have had the same person repairing my washing machines for almost 30 years, he mentioned last time he repaired my machines he was losing a lot of business as nowadays machines would be just out of guarantee and he had to tell people it need a new motor but naturally with washing machines so cheap they weren't going to pay out for this.  He also mentioned there were some machines he just now wouldn't touch. Next time when something went wrong I decided to call it a day and just get a new machine. I called him to check what machine to buy as he had said some he no longer worked with. He said "Get the cheapest Indesit you can buy". I said was that the best one to get and he said "No, it can be your luck whatever you buy but with the other brands if you require a part you need to buy the whole unit but Indesit still supply parts".  I took his advice and almost 3 years down the line I've had no trouble. Thought in case you had to buy one I would tell you that.

  5. If it needs parts plus the labour it can get close to the price of a used replacement machine. Call a few places and ask what their hourly rate is. What is wrong with it ?
