Question:

My washing machine shakes itself to death on the max.spin setting?

This recently started. Luckily it's still under extended warranty and the whole drum has been replaced because it was thought the retainers had cracked. Nothing was found and it's still shaking itself to death on the full 1400 spin cycle. It's okay below that so I'm setting it no higher than 1200 but this means less drying. Hate to call the engineers out again, but it looks like I may have to. Any ideas what this might be. It's a Zanussi and not one of the cheap ones!

  1. We have a Zanussi washing machine and it shakes so much that you can see the worktop above it vibrating and very often it ends up more or less in the middle of the kitchen floor. My theory is that the peice of concrete or whatever it is, is not weighty enough to hold it down and still!

Another thing you ought to watch out for is leaks, because of the amount of shaking the machine does, it has managed to disconect one of the water pipes which left our kitchen floor looking like a lake!

Hope you can sort out your problems though

  2. if it is not on a level surface this could cause it vibrate excessivly

  3. Try spinning without any load in the drum. If the drum is not properly balanced, it will have more vibration than usual. If it is fine without load, then it's the load that is unbalanced. Before each spin cycle, the machine (better models) will try to balance the load by 'test' spinning. If it is not balanced, it will try to redistribute the load and try again until it balances. You machine may have a fault with this cycle and is not doing it.

  4. Have you adjusted the feet underneath the washing machine? What about the concrete block in the machine? Is that OK and intact? Call out the engineers if only for assurance that everything is alright and working. It could be that your washing machine does shake at high spin.

  5. I have a Zanussi too but it only does this when I have large bath sheets in and it is unbalanced. I would get the engineers out again, we pay enough for the machines in the first place, Don't feel bad about it.

I have had mine for 15 years and it still looks like new, although it shakes occasionally!

  6. You may have to redistribute the load now and then.

  7. could be either uneven loading of the drum or

the machine is not correctly levelled.

But these things are not so cheap (even the cheap ones) so don't hesitate to call out the engineer especially as it is still under warranty.

  8. my mum says that if there is too much washing in it and also if its not distributed enough inside and this is why it can shake because its an uneven load, because ours did this once.

  9. Washing machines tend to shake during the spin cycle when they are not level

There should be some adjustable feet in the front corners which will enable you to make the machine level and should sort out the problem

  10. The drum might not be balanced properly,or the counter-weight is loose.
