My washing machine will not start??

I know I know it was a dumb move placing a standard size pillow in the washing machine. Naturally it was overloaded and stopped in the middle of the first spin, so I open the lid and reposition the pillow. The machine started up again when I shut the lid. Then of course it stop again, then I repositioned the pillow again, it started spinning then stopped. I thought I should just throw it out, the pillow was soaked. Anyway I gathered up some cloths to do a regular load. When I set the k**b and pulled it out, the washing machine did nothing. I was like it was completely dead. I have broke a belt before years it was the same brand machine just older. Even with belt broke water still poured into the washer. I checked the circuit breaker to make sure nothing was tripped, and it was fine. I unplugged the machine after a few seconds plugged back in. I took the front off so I could if maybe the motor had burned out. Everything looked normal, I figured if I did burn the motor up it would have a burning smell. I look at the belt underneath and it looks fine, read through the manual and still could not find any information. My washer is a top loading Maytag. I can't believe I put that stupid pillow in the machine. Just wondering if anyone had any info, I would hate to get another one and find out it was something simple wrong with it. Thanks

  1. unplug the washer, then plug a lamp in the same socket that the washer was plugged into, turn the lamp on to be sure that the receptical is still getting electricity to it. if it is then you'll need to start checking on the other suggestions, if not, maybe a bad receptical.

you said you already checked the circuit breaker.

    good luck to ya

  2. You didnt offer enough information on your washer model, but check this site and see if you can spot your problem -

  3. There is a very good chance that you have blown a fuse.  Some maytag machines have a fuse located behind the front of the control panel inline with the main power supply.  There could also be a fuse on the lid switch.  Without knowing the model # I can't tell you for sure.
