Question:

My water heater is 18 inches in diameter. A wider one won't fit. I want to replace it with the best.?

Most water heaters are too thick, because of their insulation etc. I'm willing to pay more to get an 18 inch one, but want it to be the best, with the best thin insulation, the best warranty, the best first-hour rating, etc. It can be any height, up to about 5 1/2 feet. It uses natural gas.

Is there a website where I can compare brands, and search by the diameter? For example, if I go to the Sears website, I get a list of water heaters and have to look at each of them to get the specs, and each turns out to be wider than 18 inches.

It has paid for it's self .I'm happy.

  4. You could think about going to a tankless water heater.

  5. it wont fit through the opening? I run into this with mobile homes all the time. several suppliers have switched to the squatier version but the talls are still available, check with Mobilehomestuffstore.com. and ask for the physical dimensions. electric or gas will make a difference as well. the first hour rating will depend on the element rating or the burner size and can be changed if the manufacturer allows it.

  6. You have to be mistaken, 18 inches is about the diameter of a roll of paper towels!  Anywho, they are correct, tankless is the way to go.

  7. Check out tankless water heaters. They are cheaper to operate and you will never run out of hot water. I also think you may get to right off part of the price on your taxes. Just a thought...Good Luck.
