Question:

My water tastes terrible.?

I just moved across the country and the water here tastes TERRIBLE. I mean, I can't even drink enough of it from the tap to take three small pills. I know some people claim water doesn't have a taste (it does if it is not pure water, look it up), but I need something with no calories to clean up the flavor of this water.

I don't particularly like those sugared or sugarless packets of chemicals that you can dump in a bottle of water to make it taste like strawberries or whatever. I fear these things might be just as bad for you as other chemicals. I also have tried Brita water from the same apartment community - it doesn't improve the taste any for me.

I don't want to keep buying water because I'm wasting plastic even with the gallon bottles and I'm a grad student so I'm even poorer than a college student. Any suggestions on how to get this crappy water to either lose it's taste or taste less metallic/sour?

  1. If your water is tasting metallic/sour, I'd definitely stop drinking it until you can get a good filter. You could be drinking rust and all sorts of nasty stuff. Ditto to the guy above me about getting your water tested.

My bf always hated the taste of Brita water -- dunno why, I never tried it myself. We got a PUR filter for the faucet from Costco, and it works great. However, we live in WA, and the tap here is pretty fresh except on Sundays (when they run a bit of chlorine to clean things). With the PUR filter, we're able to drink the water on Sundays and it doesn't taste like chlorine. Dunno how well it would improve your water, but it might be worth a shot.

  2. Pure water is tasteless, so that stuff must have something in it.

Since you're a grad student maybe you could get someone in the chemistry department to analyze it and see if there's anything poisonous in it (not joking).

  3. duno go to the council oir somethinjg

  4. DO NOT Drink Tap Water!!!  Crystal Light is horrific for your body too, unfortunately!!

My family has studied water for years .... if you all knew what was in Tap water you would not believe it.

It IS WORTH your health in the long run to buy bottled water - Ice mountain is one of the best.  Try to save in other avenues - but not your health. You only being paying MUCH later when your 60-70 years of age.

We used to drink Avian until we found out it is bad traces in it.

Also, at Starbucks you can ask for water - they give it for free - and it's the "good" kind of water. Take your pills there :)

Congrats on going to Grad school ... I wish you the best!

    God Bless you.

  5. Well normally I would suggest even a basic filter such as Pur or Britta but you said they don't work. So move up to a home purification system.

Filters only do a basic cleaning and normally only just improves taste and odor. They don't do much more so if there is a lot in the water then it won't do much to improve taste. Home purification systems are much better and remove much more.

I recommend only one system when asked. It is the highest rated system available and it actually is cheaper per gallon than a Britta after the 2nd year. If interested ask me for more information.

  6. Filter it.
