  1. oh really??

    did they say why??

  2. Your key words are more than what is in the META tags. Search engines take stock of the content in your site to determine your keywords.

Register your site with Google and Yahoo so you can get a better idea of what they consider your keywords. Then you can go about adjusting your content which in turn will adjust your keywords.

  3. You can't change what is already out there, but you can change what is on your site, tell you designer to change your <meta> tag with the new ones you want.

  4. The keywords in the meta tags are about worthless. Don't worry about that.

Very early on people abused this feature and so search engines pretty much ignore them. The meta tag for description is used somewhat.

As to the keywords search engines associate with your site, there are two major things that influence this: the content of your site, and the text of the back links to your site.

  5. One possibility is that he used a content management system and has no clue what he is doing. Another possibility is that the entire site text is designed around capturing certain keywords and phrases and changing the meta tags would not be beneficial without totally rewording the text, which I'm sure he will be unwilling to do for free.

As a web designer I am confronted all the time with people who want to make very small changes to thier site. So small that it would seem like you couldn't assign a price to it but at the same time you don't want to continually make little changes here and there to every site you've ever made. Eventually it would be a full time job.
