Question:

My website has been hacked. I have the hacker's IP address. Is there anything I can do?

He left his email address ( I guess he's an egomaniac). I emailed him and he gave me an IP address that he says is his - basically challenging me to do something about it. BTW, it is: 84.170.213.154

So, anything I can do? Any authorities I can call? Any mischief I can pull?

Thanks,

Charley

  1. OR maybe he is out to get someone in trouble, maybe someone who angered him in life or maybe a rival hacker and he gave you their email and IP, maybe it's just a random person and he did it for laughs, but do as meltingsmoke suggested, just remember it may not really be him.

  2. WIth an IP, there are tons of things you can do. You can actually hack into his computer, because he was stupid enough to give you his IP. I don't recommend dealing with it - it would be illegal to do anything to his computer.

  3. Just call your webhost and let them know what happened, its not your job to do anything about it, they have departments already much better equiped to deal with that sort of thing.

That IP block is in germany so US laws don't really apply anyway and your site isn't going to be high enough priority where the german authorites would care.

If your really intent on following up with it, try emailing his ISP t-dialin.net owned by DEUTSCHE TELEKOM AG with details on the date and time, maybe they will flag his account or something, but again your webhost can do that for you.

  4. hes in germany , bayern .
